Artists in Leadership:  The Montana Group 2009.

Fifteen leaders/artists who hold significant positions of leadership in arts education institutions, around the globe have been invited to discuss and share their experiences of leadership and how this is informed by their work as Artists, and how their Leadership position impacts their work as Artists.

 

The two day ‘dialogue’ or Symposium, will provide a rare opportunity to discuss the complex role of leadership and the specific qualities and tensions involved in balancing this with an active role as an artist. It will be an opportunity for the sharing of information and experiences and in particular, to profile the artistic practices of the participants and explore ways of creating and maintaining a supportive international network.

 

Transcripts of the first dialogue  are projected to be published by Metasenta, in it’s Small Book Series and the University of Arts London will be creating a special internet site for ongoing dialogue.

An Association will be established at this first dialogue, which we will endeavor to provide a network of communication dialogue and support for artists/leaders.

 

Following dialogues will take place, in various parts of the world over the following eight years. We envisage this group to engage in a discourse regarding issues with art practice and the role of high level management / administration.

The Montana Group: 3 International Dialogues

 

Prof. Chris Wainwright, Dean of University Arts London and Dr. Irene Barberis Director MetaSenta Projects launched the first of three dialogues on Artists in Leadership with leaders from international universities and colleges. This set of dialogues/symposium were held in Lucerne, Switzerland in 2009 concurrent with the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) conference which took place at the Zurich University of the Arts. Prof. Chris Wainwright is also President of ELIA.
